Ok - Here we go!
This has been a long time in the making! Sarah and I have been discussing and praying about the opportunity to be a formal part of Amani Baby Cottage for over 2 years. Why the wrestling? For us, it has been so much about timing. With a big family, there are a lot of moving parts. And knowing that any decision that is made affects a lot of lives, we found ourselves waiting. Not for the absolute perfect time – because honestly, I don’t think that a “perfect” time actually exists. With any change, there is going to be heartache. Change by its very nature reflects that there are adjustments that need to be made. Recently – about the past 9 months – we have just become more “comfortable” about the idea of packing up, selling most of what we own, and moving 7,000 miles away. Sounds simple, right?
Are we excited? Definitely. This is a huge opportunity to be a part of a ministry that is daily making a positive difference in the lives of kids. And not just meals and a place to sleep, but actually focused on providing an introduction to who Jesus is. Young hearts and ears absorb a lot, and it will be our privilege to be tools for Him in influencing the hearts of kids.
Are we anxious? Yes. We are a loooong way from practically making the move. In order for us to be able to do this, God will need to provide Ministry Partners. As we are missionary staff, we will not receive a salary from Amani. We will be fully funded through the partnership of individuals, churches and others that join us in investing in Uganda’s kids. This involves lots and lots of contacts. Calling folks to invest in our family and our ministry effort. Think “telemarketing”. But also think of opportunities to introduce folks to a ministry that is doing so much good.
So, sorry for this serving as a short commercial, but we ask for your prayers. Pray that God will nudge hearts (maybe including yours?) to join us in this. And pray that God will provide encouragement along the way so that we hold onto courage and strength to place one foot in front of the other. And pray for the kids of Amani – not just the ones there right now, but also those that this terrific ministry will be shaping and blessing for years to come.
Thanks for joining us on this journey! We appreciate your prayers and encouragement.
With that note, we push off from the shore, ready to face what lies ahead!
